A rock opera worth the season
Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Olivier Award-winning Jesus Christ Superstar plays a five-week season at The Civic — book once, come back for a second date night.
CBD Apartment · Hobson Street
This reimagined production, originally staged at London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. Told entirely through an iconic 1970s rock score — ‘Superstar’, ‘I Don’t Know How to Love Him’, ‘Gethsemane’ — it explores the final days of Jesus Christ through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Recommended for ages 13+. With a five-week Auckland season (21 October – 15 November 2026), there’s flexibility to pick the date that suits, or come back for a second visit.
